The working principle is very simple. The rotating part of the pump is a flexible impeller made of an elastomeric material. This impeller rotates in a housing with an eccentric shape. At this point the individual blades of the impeller are strongly bent, reducing the volume between the blades. On the suction side, the wings are separated by internal stress. The suction space increases. A vacuum is created, causing the pump to suck dry on its own. On the pressure side the wings are pressed together. The gaps become smaller and empty.

 

KIESEL impeller pumps have a continuous pulsation-free flow. The conveying direction can be reversed without difficulty. This does not change the efficiency of the impeller pumps.

 

The KIESEL impeller pumps achieve the highest efficiency at speeds between 500 – 1500 rpm. Higher speeds greatly reduce the service life of the impeller. At lower speeds, the efficiency drops sharply due to the “slip” between impeller and housing.

 

The speed of the pumps is highly dependent on the homogeneity, viscosity and abrasiveness of the pumped medium.

 

The impeller pumps are self-lubricating. Since frictional heat is quickly generated between the impeller and housing without lubrication, the impeller pump may only run dry for a short time. The aspiration process must be completed within approx. 30 seconds. After the impeller has been used by the pumped medium, a longer dry run is also possible.
